DAY CARE
Who is Day Care for?

Day Care offers a day out to older people, who are lonely, isolated or confined to their homes because of disability. This may be a physical disability - caused for example by a stroke – or a mental health problem such as depression, anxiety or dementia. Day Care also provides carers with regular breaks.

What is Day Care?

The Day Care is offered to a person on one or more days per week on a continuous long-term basis. No more than 12 people are cared for on any one day and this allows the care to be person centered, that is planned especially to meet the needs of each individual person.

Refreshments are provided throughout the day as well as a two course lunch. The most important aspect of day care is that it allows people to socialize with their peers and the activities in day care are planned with this in mind.

The service users can take part in a program of exercises, games and group and individual activities. Outings and other entertainments are arranged. The content of the program of activities is agreed with the service users. Three paid members of staff, together with three to four voluntary helpers are on hand to support the service users as required.

Our Day Care arrangements

We run a specialist Day Care Service for people with dementia in The Haven each Monday and Friday. This is for people
from the areas of Queensferry, Dalmeny, Kirkliston,
Newbridge, Ratho and Ratho Station.

We run Day Care for physically disabled older people as follows:

  • On Tuesdays in The Haven for people from South Queensferry and Dalmeny.

  • On Wednesdays in Kirkliston Community Centre for people from Ratho and Ratho Station.

  • On Thursdays in Kirkliston Community Centre for people from Kirkliston and Newbridge.

How to apply for Day Care

For all our groups we accept applications from local Social Work and Health professionals, as well as applications from older people themselves and those who care for them. It is a requirement of the service that people referred have had a community care assessment (Care Nap). If you are unsure about this please phone and our day care staff will be happy to advise. Remember if you are applying on behalf of someone else always get their permission first.
