This
service aims to complement our existing services in supporting and
offering companionship for older people in their own homes. The service
is for older people *who are socially isolated due to illness or
disability.
The service provides trained volunteers who have also been through enhanced disclosure checks.
Volunteers
are then matched with an older person and will usually visit weekly or
fortnightly at a mutually agreed time and day. The volunteer befriender
will provide social support either in the persons own home or by
assisting them to undertake various activities such as: “one off”
appointments, leisure activities or attend social events in the
communities where they live.
The volunteer recruitment officer
will support the volunteer and older person by maintaining regular
contact to ensure any changes or issues are monitored and agreed to
everyone’s satisfaction. In the volunteer recruitment officer’s absence
the manager will assist with this.
