In 1992 Queensferry was recognised to be an area of the Lothian's requiring out of hospital care for the elderly and in particular, people with a diagnosis of dementia. A situation that often-left families isolated and struggling alone to provide care at home for their relatives.A Local Authority Social Worker with responsibility for the care of older people, brought together a group of people from across the Queensferry community to see if a solution could be found. One of the main concerns was daycare. Funding was needed as were premises. A small grant was obtained for one year and a member of staff employed. Rev John Carrie (Minister at Queensferry Parish Church) played an integral part in all the negotiation offered a room at the Church. In September 1993 the organisation we know today as "Queensferry Churches' Care in the Community" was born.
A Board was appointed to oversee operations with the minister of Rev John Carrie as its first Chairman, and two years later a manager was appointed to manage the service. Under her leadership QCCC grew from providing daycare to 12 people one day a week to providing a five day weekly service which moved to its own premises in 2004.Our Board of Directors continue to ensure that we maintain our gold standard of high quality care and service delivery and continues to work alongside our staff team and volunteers to identify and meet the challenges of ever growing need.
