Board Member

Angie Alexander studied English Literature at Bristol University. She actively volunteered at school for Amnesty International and continued volunteering at university for Save the Children. After graduation, she decided to pursue a career in the third sector after gaining an insight into everyday charity working life at Save the Children, as a volunteer Area Media Coordinator back in Edinburgh. Her first role in the sector was in London for the Soldiers Sailors Air Force Association (SSAFA) Forces Help as a Fundraising Assistant and PA and then Legacy Fundraising Manager, before taking on a role as UK Programme Coordinator for Save the Children. At her time at Save the Children, she worked in programmes, did sessional work with a project for unaccompanied asylum seekers and refugee children and young people. She moved across to a new department as a Youth Campaigner and then Youth Campaigns Manager, supporting young people to campaign at a local and national level, at parliament and party conferences on issues like infant and child mortality in developing countries, access to education in conflict affected states and also UK child poverty. She moved with her husband to Japan and worked for Save the Children Japan as a Communications Consultant reviewing their strategy with the Save the Children Alliance. While she was there, the Tohoku and Fukushima disaster happened and she led on Emergency Communications in the initial wake of the disaster. She also volunteered as an International Funding Director for Refugees International Japan and taught English Language to mature students. Back in the UK, Angie worked for a local homelessness charity, RESTART and took on the role of Business Development Director to set up a social enterprise, Carlowrie Castle. Following on from that, she worked as a freelance Fundraising and Communications consultant. Angie joined Held In Our Hearts, a baby loss charity in 2016, as their Fundraising Manager and at the beginning of 2019, took on the role of Chief Operating Officer.
