Queensferry Care team take on the loony dook
Updated:
On 1st January 2026, we gather once again for the legendary Loony Dook and this year is extra special: it's the 40th anniversary of loonies hurling themselves into the Forth for charity and good cheer. To mark the occasion, a fearless crew from Queensferry Care is taking the plunge (photos from last year's amazing event!) including: Andrew Burton, Chair of the Board; Lindsey Devin, Community Fundraiser; Local legend and friend, Adam Naylor....plus a few other brave souls who clearly have more enthusiasm than body heat.
They'll be plunging into the freezing Forth in the morning, fancy dress encouraged (wetsuits strictly banned as apparently that's cheating!). All in the shadow of our iconic bridges, surrounded by community spirit, laughter and the best over indulgence cure ever invented.
WHY THEY'RE DOING IT
Queensferry Care has been supporting older people and carers across rural northwest Edinburgh for over 30 years - which means the Loony Dook is actually older than we are! Every year, we help around 400 local people stay connected, active, valued and well in later life. Your donation will help us continue to provide Day Opportunities at The Haven, Lunch and Supper Clubs, Support for Carers, Befriending and Community Connection, Practical help that makes everyday life easier and brighter. We're proud to be part of such a caring community and what better way to celebrate that than by freezing our toes off for a good cause?
HOW YOU CAN HELP
If you can, please sponsor our team. Every donation (big or small) helps us continue supporting the older folk who make rural northwest Edinburgh the warm, welcoming place it is. And, if you're out on New Year's Day, come cheer us on. We'll be the ones arriving by Trishaw, sporting bright yellow t-shirts and funny costumes, convincing each other this was a good idea.
